Boquete Area Changes Underway
Cielo Paraiso Golf Course Now Open: First Nine Holes of 18 hole world - class course now open.

Ricardo Martinelli New President of Panama
Ricardo Martinelli, owner of the Super 99 chain of supermarkets, will take office on July 1 as the new President of Panama for the next five years. President Martinelli of the party Alliance for Change, is a strong advocate of the free trade agreement with the United States as well as major development projects such as ports, highways, Panama Canal expansion, education and health system improvements and a subway system for Panama City. He won over 60% of the vote in a resounding victory. Current Minister of Housing, Balbina Herrera of the incumbent party (PRD) received approximately 37% of the votes. Former President Guillermo Endara received approximately 2%. Under Panamanian law, the President may serve only one term and then must step down though they may run for President again in the future.
Mayor Manolo Ruiz is Reelected!
Boquete's Mayor Manolo Ruiz who has juggled the challenges of managing the transformation of Boquete from a quiet coffee community into a world-class destination for tourists and foreign retirees has won reelection. Marcial Suarez was also reelected as Representante for Corregimiento Bajo Boquete. Other election results are still coming in.
Tuesday Morning Information and Networking Meeting Schedule
Every Tuesday morning between 10:30am and 12:00pm there is a Tuesday Morning Information and Networking meeting in English with a different speaker each week now at the Fundadores hotel. Attendance is typically 40-100 people.
May 5, 2009 - Major Urraca de la Hoz will be the speaker. He is in charge of the police force for Boquete.

Alberto Kelso from Habitat for Humanity will be our speaker.
May 19, 2009 - We have a gentleman who will present "Gold & Silver as Wealth Protection".
May 26, 2009 - Raquel Atencio, who is Vice President of the Chamber of Tourism for Chiriqui ("Camara de Turismo de Chiriqui") may be our speaker.
June 2, 2009 - Franklin Gruber, the mountain medicine man will speak on Panamanian herbs. He will also have his jungle oil available.
June 9, 2009 - Bixby Tapiero may be our speaker.
June 16, 2009 - David WD. Morris, who is an American entrepreneur in the forestry business in Panama and his wife will speak about developing a project to plant Pawlonia Trees in the west side of Panama province (Chepo). Paulownia trees originated in Asia centuries ago. The trees came into the spotlight worldwide for their ability to produce high quality timber at much faster rate than any other hardwood tree.
Martin Rivera will speak about paulownia www.paulownianow.org and investment in managed paulownia plantations in Panama www.panampro.com and the Enoch Olinga College (ENOCIS) www.enocis.org and their efforts with the underserved peoples of Panama.
June 23, 2009 - Ann Jorgensen and Rector Bernardino Sánchez will give a presentation regarding the Universidad Ngäbe-Bukle (Mona Foundation is helping to fund the work). More information later.
