Scoring an unprecedented 98 points for its Geisha Washed and 97 for its Geisha Natural, the Peterson family’s farm has once again confirmed Panama’s position as the home of the world’s most refined specialty coffees.
These record-breaking coffees were grown on El Velo, a prized plot in the Boquete highlands where Panama’s Geisha revolution first began in 2004. This year, five international judges gave a perfect 100-point score to La Esmeralda’s Geisha Washed – a first in the competition’s 29-year history.
In addition to sweeping the Geisha categories, La Esmeralda took top honors in the Varietal category with a Laurina that scored 92.88 points and won the coveted Panama Cup for best overall performance. With 22 expert judges from around the world participating, the results further cement Panama’s reputation at the pinnacle of the specialty coffee world.
