Where people rent in Panama
Boquete and the Chiriqui highlands
The most popular rental market for people trialling retirement in Panama. Spring-like temperatures year round, an established international community, and a reasonable supply of furnished houses and condominiums. Volcancito and Alto Boquete offer more space just outside the town centre.
Coronado and the Pacific beaches
Beach living with supermarkets, medical services and schools, about ninety minutes from Panama City. Rental stock is mostly condominiums and gated-community homes, and availability is seasonal: dry-season demand from December to April tightens supply and lifts prices.
Panama City
For anyone working in Panama or wanting full urban services. Costa del Este, Punta Pacifica, Bella Vista and Casco Viejo are each distinct in character and price.
How renting works in Panama
- Lease terms. Long-term leases typically run a year. Shorter furnished lets are common in Boquete and the beach towns, and priced at a premium.
- Furnished means furnished. Unfurnished in Panama often means genuinely unfurnished, sometimes without appliances or light fittings. Confirm exactly what is included in writing.
- Utilities. Electricity is the bill that surprises people, particularly at the beach where air conditioning runs constantly. Ask to see recent bills rather than an estimate.
- Residency is not required. You do not need residency to sign a lease in Panama.
