Arraijan

Arraijan
Panama West

Arraijan is a district located in Panama, known for its rich history and cultural heritage.

The Arraijan area is known for its friendly and welcoming community. Many residents are involved in local organizations and events, and there is a strong sense of community spirit. This can be a great place to meet new people and make lasting connections.

The Arraijan area is also conveniently located just a short drive from Panama City, which means that residents have easy access to all of the amenities and opportunities that a big city has to offer. This includes a wide range of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, as well as excellent healthcare and educational facilities.

Overall, the combination of natural beauty, strong community ties, and proximity to Panama City make the Arraijan area a desirable place to live for many people.

According to various accounts, the name Arraijan may have originated from a local indigenous leader named Arrayán, who ruled over the surrounding lands. Other versions of the name's origin refer to a flower called the arrayán, which was abundant in the area during the time of the arrival of the Spanish, and resembled the European myrtle or arrayán.

In 1735, Bishop Pedro Morcillo Rubio y Auñón referred to Arraijan as a border town to the city of Panama, located on the western side, and home to around 700 people. Some sources also suggest that the name may have been influenced by the English language, as travelers from the Atlantic side of Aspinwall (now Colón) to Panama City on the Pacific side would refer to the town on the right-hand side as "at right hand," despite the name predating this period in US history. Today, Arraijan remains an important part of Panama's cultural and historical landscape, offering a unique blend of traditional and modern influences.
