Downtown Boquete

Downtown Boquete is a thriving and exciting small town community in the heart of world famous Boquete, Panama.

Boquete's center is full of world-class restaurants, beautiful parks, hotels and inns, fun local bars, spas, and shopping.   It is nestled in a gorgeous mountain valley blessed with countless rainbows and the pretty Caldera river.   People come to Boquete and fall in love with its natural beauty, warm and welcoming people and wide range of activities to enjoy here.

As you pass the tourist center overlooking downtown Boquete, you begin to descend into the stunningly gorgeous Boquete valley.  The town is nestled among beautiful, green mountains.  Flowers line the roadway and after a few moments, the road levels out.  There are occasional shops and restaurants here.  Lovely little houses and a few luxurious estates are here as well.  You pass the road entrance to the fabulous Haven Wellness Resort & Spa behind the trees.

Then you approach the relatively new and quite large Boquete Public Library - privately built and funded by the Lions Club and local families.  Behind the Library and along the River, the brand new Boquete Park is an amazing addition to the town.  The large natural setting is a favorite of locals, tourists and expats alike.  It’s an impressive 20 plus acres of beauty right in downtown Boquete.

A bit more down the street, you pass the newly refurbished Selina hotel, a new hotspot for the creative traveler and then come to the impressive Los Senderos plaza which integrates well with natural surroundings.   Going on, the buildings get closer together and there are rows of restaurants, coffee shops, banks, shops and tour companies.

Just before reaching the newly renovated and lovely Central Park that marks the center of downtown, you pass the Casa Solution real estate office.  Maybe you’ll spot smiling new residents walking out celebrating their new Boquete house or lot purchase. 😊 Along with them are many other smiling people given that Boquete is one of the happiest places in the world.  (Check out the article on this site that cites Gallup on this point.)

On the streets, you will see hardworking Boquetanians chatting and going about their business.  Along with them are Panamanian tourists from other parts of Panama. Boquete is one of, if not the most coveted tourist destinations for Panamanians.  And of course, tourists of all ages from around the world.  With Boquete having a population of about 25,000, perhaps a bit more, you are also likely to spot some of the 3,000 plus expats, many of them retirees who have decided to make Boquete their home.  Along with the retirees are families who see Boquete as a wholesome place to raise their children away from the challenges elsewhere and then there are the forward thinking younger adults who are creating innovative ways to make a good living in an amazing place – perhaps by building and renting out casitas, doing remote work using Boquete’s extensive high speed fiber Internet network, by starting other new businesses or by farming – coffee farming is a particular niche.

Going further into downtown, the restaurants, shops and hostels abound, and then you come to a fork which leads to the historical Panamonte Inn and Spa; a beautiful place with a great restaurant.  On the other side of the river, accessible by a recently built bridge on one side of downtown and a brand new one by the Panamonte on the other, is the Boquete Fairgrounds.  The Fairgrounds is host to some extraordinary annual fairs and festivals.

The Boquete Coffee and Flower Fair is a spectacular event where countless flowering plants grace the Fairgrounds.  It's held in January each year.  The Orchid Fair is a bit smaller but also wonderful and held at the Fairgrounds in March each year, usually under sparkling sun and rainbows together.  What a great setting the Fairgrounds are for these and other events being right along the beautiful Caldera River and in view of towering Volcan Baru.

Downtown is also host to large, exciting parades at different points of the year.  All of the high school children participate in the November parades with most of them playing instruments and marching.  There is also the enchanting night-time Christmas parade … so Fun!

Downtown Boquete has different kinds of property and real estate to choose from too, though they tend to be in high demand.  The options include condominiums in small condo buildings, some condos over storefronts, stand-alone houses of varying sizes and type, and then there are the downtown Boquete residential developments as well as a larger condo building.  Those are the famous Valle Escondido, Panamonte Estates and Valle del Rio.

Sugar and Spice is another standout restaurant in Boquete.
