Over 300 international buyers from more than 20 countries are set to compete in the 2025 edition of the “Best of Panama” electronic auction, a prestigious showcase for the country’s world-renowned specialty coffees – especially the ultra-premium Geisha variety.
Scheduled for August 6 at 6:00 p.m. (local time), the Best of Panama (BOP) auction will present 50 lots of Panama’s finest specialty beans: 20 of washed Geisha, 20 of natural Geisha, and 10 varietal lots, totaling approximately 1,000 kilograms of high-end coffee. Organized by the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama (SCAP), the event has become a major global platform for the country’s elite coffee producers.
Buyers from Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East – including China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the U.S., Canada, and the UAE – have registered for this highly anticipated bidding war. These buyers represent elite roasters, coffee chains, and collectors in search of the world’s best beans.
This year’s base auction price starts at $100 per kilogram for Geisha lots and $60 for varietals, reflecting Panama’s dominance in the high-end coffee sector. SCAP Vice President Daniel Peterson noted that all coffee offered has been carefully curated and scored by an international tasting panel in the June BOP competition.
Geisha coffee, especially when grown in Panama’s highlands, has garnered global acclaim for its extraordinary floral aroma, citrus undertones, and complexity. In 2024, a record was set at the BOP auction when a lot of Elida Geisha Natural sold for a jaw-dropping $10,013 per kilogram – cementing its place as the most expensive coffee in the world.
