Panama is stepping up its efforts to attract more visitors from Mexico. Between August 12 and 14, PROMTUR Panamá, in partnership with Copa Airlines, organized a tourism caravan that visited Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
The initiative brought together more than 20 Panamanian tourism providers with Mexican travel agencies, wholesalers, and event organizers. The meetings were designed to showcase Panama’s broad appeal as a travel destination and strengthen commercial ties between the two countries. Panama’s ambassador to Mexico, Abraham Martínez Montilla, participated in the events, underscoring the diplomatic and cultural support behind this effort.
A major highlight of the promotion was the Panama Stopover Program, which allows passengers flying with Copa Airlines to spend several days in Panama at no extra airfare cost before continuing to their final destination. In just the first six months of 2025, more than 95,000 travelers took advantage of this program, exploring attractions such as the Panama Canal, modern city landmarks like the F&F Tower, and the country’s beaches and rainforests.
During the caravan, Panama was presented as a country that combines culture, nature, and gastronomy with a growing reputation for shopping and business events. According to Demetrio Maduro, Chairman of PROMTUR Panamá’s Board of Directors, Mexico is seen as a key strategic partner for the continued expansion of Panama’s tourism sector.
This promotional strategy highlights Panama’s efforts to reinforce its position as a diverse and vibrant destination, offering experiences that range from cosmopolitan city life to ecotourism and cultural exploration. By reaching out directly to the Mexican travel market, Panama is building stronger connections that are expected to increase the flow of visitors and open new opportunities for collaboration in the region.
