Panama’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has announced a record investment package of $474 million across 20 road and bridge projects nationwide. The plan, expected to create more than 30,000 jobs, includes works in Panama City, San Miguelito, and Chiriquí.
In the capital, 11 Mabey-type bridges such as those in Brisas del Golf and Parque Lefevre will be reinforced with concrete decks, while the Transístmica bridge will undergo structural repairs. Roadworks will also address drainage issues in areas like Vía Tocumen, Las Acacias, and Don Bosco.
San Miguelito will see over $12 million invested in sidewalks, street rehabilitation, and flood control.
In Chiriquí, $27 million has been allocated to improve the 25.2-kilometer Ruta del Café in Boquete, including sections through Alto Boquete and Jaramillo. This project aims to ease travel, support coffee production, and strengthen tourism access.
Outlook for Local Areas
For residents and property owners, these projects mean smoother commutes, reduced flooding, and better connectivity. In Boquete, the upgraded coffee route could enhance both daily life and long-term property appeal, particularly in communities tied to agriculture and tourism.
Work is expected to begin in the upcoming dry season, with each project carrying a three-year maintenance plan.
