Tocumen Airport to Begin Charging for Terminal 2 Parking Starting August 4

Travelers passing through Tocumen International Airport should take note: Starting August 4, 2025, the airport will begin implementing a new parking fee structure at Terminal 2. The policy aims to increase security and improve access for active airport users.

Details of the New Fee System
According to Tocumen’s official announcement, the parking fees at Terminal 2 will be tiered based on the length of stay:

  • First 120 minutes: $0.03 per minute

  • 121 to 360 minutes (2 to 6 hours): $0.04 per minute

  • Beyond 6 hours, up to 24 hours: $0.01 per minute

The maximum charge for a 24-hour period is capped at $24.00, which also applies in the case of lost tickets. After payment, drivers will have a 15-minute grace period to exit the parking lot.

Mario Domínguez, Vice President of Airport Services, explained that the change addresses a recurring issue: long-term parking abuse. “We had situations where people would leave their cars for a month while traveling abroad,” he stated. This created a shortage of parking for travelers who actually needed short-term access to the terminal.

Bonus for Travelers: Security Screening Gets Easier
In a move that will surely please frequent flyers, Tocumen Airport has also confirmed that passengers will no longer be required to remove their shoes during security checks. The update aligns Panama with U.S. travel protocols and reflects an upgraded screening process designed to reduce hassle without compromising security.

Looking Ahead
Though relatively minor, this parking fee change is one of many indicators that Panama continues to refine its infrastructure and align with international standards. These developments contribute to a more efficient travel experience and reinforce Panama’s appeal to global travelers and investors alike.
