The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has awarded Constructora Ininco, S.A. a 25.9 million dollar contract to rehabilitate the well known Ruta del Café in Boquete, Chiriquí. The decision, issued on October 31, followed a public tender in which Ininco outscored two competing bidders, Bagatrac, S.A. and the Consorcio CT Ruta del Café.
According to the evaluation report, Ininco received the highest technical and economic score with 100 points. Bagatrac followed with 97.25, and the CT consortium with 87.23.
The contract, awarded under a turnkey modality, includes the design, construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of approximately 25.2 km of key internal roads in the district. The sections scheduled for improvement include:
-
Via Volcancito from Alto Boquete to the El Salto intersection (9.49 km)
-
Via El Salto to Avenida Centenario in Bajo Boquete (6.47 km)
-
Jaramillo Arriba to Jaramillo Abajo (5.89 km)
-
Jaramillo Centro to Bajo Boquete via the Bailey bridge (0.87 km)
-
Connection from Via El Salto to the road toward Alto Quiel (2.48 km)
The initiative aims to strengthen Boquete’s connectivity, support its tourism flow, and improve access for agricultural producers, particularly those involved in the local coffee sector.
Additional 17.2 Million Dollars Approved for Emergency Works in Boquete
In a separate decision, the Cabinet Council authorized the MOP to carry out two exceptional contracts totaling 17.2 million dollars to address severe damage caused by early October rains.
The first contract, awarded to Constructora NFL, S.A. for 6 million dollars, focuses on critical points in Palmira and Los Naranjos. The second, granted to Bocas Generation Company Inc. for 11.2 million dollars, targets improvements in Bajo Boquete’s stormwater system. Both allocations fall below the official reference price.
The projects include stabilizing slopes with geotechnical solutions, restoring road surfaces, and rebuilding key drainage structures to manage runoff and prevent future landslides. The MOP emphasized that the exceptional contracting process responds to the urgent need to protect residents and infrastructure as the rainy season continues.
A Brief Note on the Commitment to Boquete
These two announcements signal a strong governmental commitment to Boquete’s safety, connectivity, and long term infrastructure resilience, especially after repeated climate related disruptions.
